The church of Saint-Jacques Stat, located in the municipality of the Chapel at Bruyeres is part of the undivided property of this municipality and that of Vienville. The church of Saint-Jacques is a building rich in history and of great cultural and tourist interest. The legend says that Charlemagne, come to hunt in the Vosges would have found this place so nice that there would built a chapel.
The hamlet of Saint-Jacques Stat was once a stop for pilgrims on their way to St Jacques de Compostela. Ancient writings called Sanctus Jacobus Statione. The word denotes both station stop, rest for pilgrims.

L'église de Saint-Jacques du Stat, située sur la commune de la Chapelle devant Bruyères fait partie des biens indivis de cette commune et de celle de Vienville. L’église de Saint-Jacques est un bâtiment riche d’histoire et présentant un grand intérêt culturel et touristique. La légende dit que Charlemagne, venu chasser dans les Vosges aurait trouvé ce lieu si agréable qu’il y aurait fait construire une chapelle.
Le hameau de Saint-Jacques du Stat était autrefois une halte pour les pèlerins qui se rendaient à St Jacques de Compostelle. D’anciens écrits l’appelle Sanctus Jacobus a Statione. Le mot station désigne bien une halte, un repos pour les pèlerins.
