Émile Joseph Bouchard, called Butch Bouchard (born September 4, 1919 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada - died on 14 April 2012 at the age of 92, in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada), is a Canadian ice hockey player who carried the colors of the team of the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1941 to 1956. Bouchard was captain of the Canadiens for eight years, won four Stanley Cups and was involved in four NHL All Star games. Although he had a reputation for making some mistakes, he was also one of the sturdiest players, delivering the best defeats of his time. He excelled as a defensive defender, had the qualities of a passer and was also known for his leadership and as a mentor to young players. In his NHL debut, Bouchard was one of the players who brought new blood into a franchise of weakened Canadians. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966.
Description: Bouchard spent fifteen seasons as a player in the NHL, all with the Canadiens, missing only once the playoff 50 series. He was captain of the team between 1948 and 1956, after which he retired. Following these statistics, the Canadiens retired his jersey on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the franchise.
