Gen. Zachary Taylor, known as "Old Rough and Ready" had a 40 year career in United States military, including service during the war of 1812. He had retired to a small plantation near land which now is occupied by the Louisiana state capital, when he came back to successfully run for President.

A small 19th-century marble monument, very weathered, and very hard to read, stands quietly in the shrubbery that divide the grounds into an elegant garden around Huey Long's Tomb nearby.

This small faded weathered monument reads as follows:

"TAYLOR HOME

Zachary Taylor
12th president
United States

Gen. Dick Taylor
CSA 1861-1865"

It took all the Photoshop manipulation we were capable of in order to read the writing on this monument. Hopefully this will create a record of this very small yet very important monument.

Blasterz learned something today: we had not remembered that Zachary's Taylor's eldest daughter was the first wife of Jefferson Davis, future president of the Confederate states of America. She died not too long after they were married.
