The Berne is a little creek that has its source in the city of Essen.
It is a left tributary of the Emscher river.
Nowadays the Berne river is canalized along most of its length.

The source is situated ca. 2km south of the city centre in the so called "Südostviertel". There is a little greenway called Bernewäldchen, where you can find the monument on which they wrote "Bernequelle".
