The church is a simple gotiserend aisled church with flat
west facade and was later expanded eastward.
Church without tower was built in the 13th century. The present church was built in about the current form in 1641.
The wall anchors indicate the year 1617 and are believed to come from an older building. In 1957 the church was thoroughly renovated. The interior was restored in 1996.
Every Sunday at 10:00 is one of the three churches, Boijl, Stein, Makkinga, open a service of word and prayer; singing and contemplation. The church organ is a Rembrandt from the Monarkelijn Johannus Organs.
In Boijl there drinking coffee after the service. Encounter is a core concept within the municipality.
