Hut byla založena roku 1746 hrabetem Antonínem Salmem v míste dnešní pily v Jedovnicich. Jednou z hlavních pohnutek její výstavby byla snaha upotrebit velké množství dreva po velkých polomech z roku 1739.
Soucástí hute byly dve kuplovny a slévárny. Odpadní materiál po zpracování rudy - struska - byl vyvážen na haldu ve žlíbku u rudického propadání, který dodnes nese název "Ve Struskách". V roce 1812, kdy byla težba a zpracování železné rudy na vzestupu, se vytežilo a zpracovalo 27000 vídenských centu rudy. Hut vyrábela šedou litinu a v menší míre i další druhy železa. Pri dvacetipetitýdenním rocním provozu hut zpracovala asi 2000 centnýru = 112tun železa.
Hut zanikla koncem 19. století po ukoncení težby železných rud. Posledním zbytkem huti je operná kamenná zed nad levým brehem Jedovnického potoka. Ve zdi je patrný otvor tunelu - podzemního náhonu, kterým byla do huti privádena voda z rybníka Floriánek.
