A huge and stately Live Oak tree, which probably dates from around the time of the American Revolution, stands outside of Louisiana's historic old Capitol building in downtown Baton Rouge in 1976 plaque was added to this tree designating it a Bicentennial Oak.
The plaque reads as follows:
"A reminder a heritage --
A challenge for our future --
This LIVE OAK has been designated a
"BICENTENNIAL OAK"
In commemoration of our nation's 200th anniversary
Legacy of Trees
A Baton Rouge bicentennial program
1976"
