As described by the National Geodetic Survey in 1978:

"2.2 MI SE FROM WALLER.
1.2 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 90 FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH ALLIANCE STREET IN WALLER, AND THENCE 1.0 MILE SOUTH ALONG MATHIS ROAD, AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE MATHIS CEMETERY, 79.5 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF BURTON CEMETERY ROAD, 32 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF MATHIS ROAD, 8.5 FEET NORTH OF A 20 FOOT CYPRESS TREE, AND 1.2 FEET WEST OF THE WEST FENCE OF THE CEMETERY. DISK IS LEVEL WITH THE GROUND, ACCESS TO WHICH IS HAD THROUGH A 4 INCH PLASTIC SCREW PLUG."

The NGS description is pretty accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, one can use the gallery images during any attempt at future recovery... some of are now available on the NGS website as well: (visit link)

Please note that the disk is incorrectly stamped, as noted by several previous benchmark hunters and by its NGS Data Sheet records:

"RECOVERY NOTE BY GEOCACHING 2005 (DMW)
DISK APPEARS TO BE STAMPED L 1252"

The real "L 1252" is PID AX243, located about 28mi SSW of here.

Based on onsite observations, it looks like there may have been an associated witness post located 2 feet away at some point in time, but that it has been razed from its cement foundation.

Last but not least, the most recent posted NGS Data Sheet's coordinates were a little bit off (at least at the time of this waymark's posting), but only differed from my own personal observations by about 15-20 feet . The NGS Data Sheet reports it at "N 30 02 10.40 W 095 54 29.65" (i.e. "N 30° 2.173'N W 095° 54.494") which pointed to a location WITHIN the cemetery and almost on top of the aforementioned "cypress tree", while my coordinates -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 10+ reading averages -- were "N 30° 02.175 W 095° 54.495".
