At the northwestern part of the city centre of Essen Berliner Platz is located. This plaza has got its name shortly after the building of the Berlin Wall.
The artist Herbert Lungwitz (* 1913 in Weimar; † 1992 in Essen) created this 3 m high sculprure, which was first placed in the Gruga Park.
On 7/10/1964 they brought it to the Berliner Platz.
On the base of the sculpture you can read: "Denkt an Berlin" (Think of Berlin).
