The trail is 40 km. altogether, running from the east end of downtown Kamloops west through downtown then across the Thompson River to the north side. There it forks, with one fork proceeding 14 km. up the North Thompson River while the other continues west for another 19 km. along the right bank of the Thompson. This is a walking and jogging only trail which is dog friendly for the majority of its length.
Rivers Trail is listed as a wheelchair accessible facility on the
Accessible Kamloops web page. This access point is easily accessible, as the paved trail meets Royal Avenue, with parking right at the access point.
This is an intermediate access point, about a half kilometre east of McArthur Island Park. This is the section of trail on the north side of the river. From this point one may head east or west, depending on which way the wind is blowing. This is a good access point as there is ample parking here on the side of Royal Avenue.
