Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church was established in its current location in 1824 by Rev. James Smith. The current white frame church building is over 100 years old. It is one of two Franklin County, Alabama churches listed on the North Alabama Hallelujah Trail. The church is surrounded on three sides by a 500+ grave cemetery. The church's age of over 100 years comes from "Churches on the Trail", an article in the Jan/Feb 2015 issue of Franklin Living magazine.
