This colorful mosaic features an outline of the three major islands, the yellow-breasted bananaquit - the US Virgin Islands official bird and its official flower - the Yellow Elder. The inscriptions read "Legislature of the United States Virgin Islands" and "United in Pride and Hope", the official motto of the territory.
Built in 1874, the US Virgin Islands Legislature Building is located on the waterfront across the street from Fort Christian in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
