PACKET ALLEY was once a crowded street done which notable colonists in European visitors, ships' crews and immigrants, hasten to the packet boats docked below. It was also a thoroughfare for great Conestoga wagons hauling green, and packet stages loaded with goods for western pioneers. - Delaware - A Guide to the First State, New Castle section, 1938, pg. 249.
The alley is now mostly deserted and leads down to one house near the bank of the Delaware River.
