This former school is located on Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

A public Subscription School was begun on this site in 1708. It was added to, or perhaps rebuilt, in 1816. In 1896 it was enlarged and at some stage became an Art School.

A plaque on the building reads: Shrewsbury National School 1708 Enlarged 1896
The older part is of brick, with an old tile roof. The building is now an annex to Shrewsbury Technical High School.
This building appears to be in two main phases and this can clearly be seen in the front elevation. The central portion of 3 bays, defined by two central trusses, is of earlier brick to the end bays, and obvious blocking up of earlier openings in the central bay have taken place in the later brick at the same time as the late Vicorian large window apertures have been inserted.
The whole building has received a revamp in c 1896 and this includes all the fenestration and the fireplaces.
