The unique WoW tombstone for William J. Kellyin the historic Cypress Grove Cemetery -- we love the way that tree branches spell out his name.
The tombstone reads as follows:
"WILLIAM J, KELLY
Beloved husband of
Elizebeth Quinn
April 10, 1861 – November 25, 1908
His wife
Elizabeth Quinn
1871-1936"
We were not able to find out much about this family, other than from the 1900 census. We found Kelley, his wife and surviving children living in a rented house at 102 Broad Street in New Orleans:
Kelly, William, Head of household, white male, born March 1861, age 39, married 18 years, born LA, father born Ireland, mother born Ireland, working as a cotton weigher, renting his home
Kelly, Lizzie, wife, white female, born June 1862, age 38, married 18 years, mother of 13 children of whom 8 are living, father born Ireland, mother born Ireland.
Kelly, James, son, white male, born Dec 1884, age 15, single, born in LA, father b LA, mother b LA, working as a salesman
Kelly, Sadie, daughter, white female, born Jun 1886, age 14, born in LA, father b LA, mother b LA
Kelly, Irene, daughter, white female, born Jun 1889, age 10, born in LA, father b LA, mother b LA
Kelly, Thomas, son, white male, born Jan 1895, age 5, born in LA, father b LA, mother b LA
Kelly, Rhea, son, white male, born Nov 1896, age 3, born in LA, father b LA, mother b LA
The Kelly family had clearly seen their share of deep tragedy, losing 5 children by 1900.
