[FR] Le projet consistait à ajouter quarante mille mètres carrés à la construction existante du Palais des Congrès de Paris et sa grande salle de 2 400 places datant de 1973. En créant des espaces d’exposition, une nouvelle salle et de nouveaux bureaux mais aussi une extension du centre commercial, ce projet transformait l’apparence et l’impact du bâtiment sur la Porte Maillot. Celle-ci étant comprise comme un lieu de passage, une porte sur le grand axe Le Louvre-La Défense, et non comme une place.

A l’entrée, un grand cône, placé en tangente, accueille sur plusieurs niveaux des lieux de rencontre et dans sa partie supérieure le nouvel auditorium. Le grand balcon fut, lors du concours, le moyen de gagner de larges surfaces d‘exposition à l’intérieur, car il permit d’assurer l’évacuation de la grande salle à l’air libre en évitant de nombreux escaliers de secours intérieurs.

[EN] The project consisted in adding forty thousand square meters to the existing Palais des Congrès de Paris, and its 2,400-seats auditorium, which dates from 1973. By creating exhibition spaces, a new auditorium and new offices as well as extending the commercial centre, this project transformed the appearance and impact of the building on the Porte Maillot. This is now seen as a thoroughfare along the major Louvre-La Défense axis rather than a square.

t the entrance, a large cone, set at a tangent, accommodates meeting rooms at different levels and a new auditorium in its upper section.The big balcony was, during the competition, the means to gain wide exhibition space inside, because it allowed to assure the evacuation of the auditorium outdoors by avoiding numerous internal fire escapes.
