The MCINTIRE HOUSE, 8 Strand, one of the very old smaller houses, is notable for the harmony of design and beauty of execution in the paneling and fireplaces of the interior. Architects regard the date of the building as about 1690. The builder is unknown, but the house long bore the name of one of its occupants in the pre-Revolutionary days, Richard McWilliams, who married Zachariah Van Leuvenigh's daughter, Mary.  - Delaware - A Guide to the First State, New Castle section, 1938, pg. 249.

The house is much as described in the Guide.  The house is well-maintained and is a contributing building in the New Castle Historic District.
