In the South Kingstown village of Kingston is the Kingston Congregational Church.

The church is located in the center of the village, at the south end of the intersection of Rhode Island Route 138 and Upper College Road, which leads to the entrance to the University of Rhode Island.

The church is a multipart complex. The auditorium is the portion closest to the road. The building is in white clapboarding. There are two stories of windows, clear glass panes, framed with black shingles. Rising above the peaked roof is a clock tower/belfry, topped with a octagonal structure and a white spire and gold weathervane.

The congregation was originally established in 1695. The web site has a pretty extensive historical account. Here is a summary. This year represents when Reverend John Woodward of Dedham, Massachusetts, started preaching to settlers at Tower Hill a few miles east. In 1702, the first meeting house was built for the settlement in Tower Hill. Rev. Samuel Niles, a graduate from Harvard, became the first pastor. In 1752, the county seat of Kings County was moved to Little Rest, which is the old name of this village. Services continued to be held eventually transitioning to Kingston village. In July, 1820, land was donated for a new church. In January 17, 1821, the church was dedicated. The steeple was replaced in 1857 after a storm blew it over. The tower clock was added in 1877. In 1934, the Church House was purchased. The Church Hall was dedicated in 1962 for Sunday School and church functions.

Currently, there is scaffolding on the side to do some external work on the building.
