One of two historic marker s near each other in the medial of Rampart Street, this marker preserves the history of the Old Mortuary Chapel.
The marker reads as follows:
"THE OLD MORTUARY CHAPEL
Built in 1826 as burial church for victims of yellow fever, the chapel is oldest surviving church in the city. Now Our Lady of Guadalupe, the chapel is the official chapel of the New Orleans Police and Fire Departments."
