On this spot at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday Sept. 17, 1893, the day after the opening of the Cherokee Strip to homeseekers, the Right Rev'd Francis Key Brooke, Missionary Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Oklahoma, conducted what is thought to be the first religious service in Enid. O.T. ~ He preached from a wagon to sixty people despite wind and swirling dust.
