The co-ordinates and photos were taken from a point south of the bridge close to the junction with Cable Street. Footpaths run along each side of Cannon Street enabling the bridhe to be photographed, safely, from a number of different positions.
The bridge carries two sets of DLR tracks, the southern ones, and two sets of mainline tracks, the northern ones. The DLR tracks terminate at either Bank or Tower Gateway stations to the west and the mainline tracks terminate at Fenchurch Street, also to the west.
The tracks used to be carried by an arch bridge at this point but the arch was removed and girders were inserted. This ensured a consistent head clearance on both sides of the road. Prior to that, high vehicles had to use the centre of the road. The change was probably undertaken when the DLR tracks were laid.
