The GUNNING BEDFORD HOUSE, 6 Strand, built about 1730 of brick, Covered with stucco, was left high above the pavement when the Strand was leveled in 1804. From 1742 until his death in 1797, Gunning Bedford, revolutionary patriot and soldier, and Governor of the State's (1796-97) lived here. He was the grandson of the first Gunning Bedford in the lower and a cousin of Judge Gunning Bedford, Jr., Signer of the Constitution. - Delaware - A Guide to the First State, New Castle section, 1938, pg. 249.

The house is much as described in the Guide however, it is no longer covered in stucco.  The house is well maintained and continues to serve as a private residence.
