The NEW CASTLE AND FRENCHTOWN TICKET BOX, Washington St. railroad crossing near 8th St., is a small building in continuous use since 1832, when tickets were handed out through its window to passengers pf the N.C. & F.R.R., one of the earliest in the country.  It is now a crossing watchbox - Delaware - A Guide to the First State, New Castle section, 1938, pg. 252.

The ticket box has now been moved to a park area on the southwest side of Delaware Street near the Delaware River.  It was moved when it was no longer needed for railroad purposes to preserve it.  It is well maintained as a historical display.
