De Sint Nicolaaskerk gelegen aan de Brink in Dwingeloo dateert uit de 15e eeuw. De huidige torenspits werd, na het instorten van de vorige spits, in 1631 geplaatst op initiatief van Rutger van den Boetzelaer, bewoner van de havezate Batinge en drost van Drenthe. Bij de dorpsbrand van 1923 is een groot deel van het kerkinterieur in vlammen opgegaan. De portretten van Rutger van den Boetzelaer en zijn derde vrouw Batina van Lohn werden gered en bevinden zich nog steeds in de kerk. In het koor bevindt zich een zerk voor de als kind overleden Elisabeth van Echten. De kapel bij de kerk behoorde vroeger aan de bewoners van deze havezate Batinge..

St. Nicholas Church located on the Brink in Dwingeloo dates from the 15th century. The present spire was, after the collapse of the previous peak in 1631 on the initiative of Rutger Boetzelaer, occupant of the manor and Batinge sheriff of Drenthe. In the town fire of 1923, much of the church interior in flames. The portraits of Rutger Boetzelaer and his third wife of Batina Lohn were rescued and are still in the church. In the choir is a tombstone for the deceased as a child Elizabeth van Echten. The chapel at the church formerly belonged to the residents of the manor Batinge.

Dwingeloo (Drents: Dwingel) is een dorp in de provincie Drenthe in Nederland, behorende tot de gemeente Westerveld. Tot de gemeentelijke herindeling van 1 januari 1998 was het een zelfstandige gemeente, waartoe ook de buurschappen Westeinde, Eemster, Leggeloo, Lhee en Lheebroek en gedeeltes van Geeuwenbrug en Dieverbrug behoorden. Op 1 januari 2004 had het dorp 2363 inwoners.

De grote groene brink in het centrum van het dorp is beschermd dorpsgezicht. Dwingeloo werd in september 2012 uitgeroepen tot Groenste dorp van Europa.
