Van Gogh est resté inquiet et solitaire pendant sa première année à Paris, mais avec le printemps en 1887 il a commencé à explorer à l'extérieur de Paris central pour plus de paramètres pastoraux.

L'ancien pont de Clichy a disparu en 1975 avec l'île de Robinson. De suite reconstruit et déplacé par rapport à l'ancien, il est placé dans le prolongement de la rue Martre et donne sur l'avenue intercommunale Gabriel Péri d'Asnières et Gennevilliers.

Van Gogh remained anxious and lonely during his first year in Paris, but with the spring in 1887 he began to explore outside of central Paris for more pastoral settings.

Of making The Seine with the Pont de Clichy also named Bridges of Asnières (F303) Van Gogh wrote, "I've been worried by the sunset with figures and a bridge that I spoke of to Bernard. The bad weather prevented me working on the spot and I’ve completely ruined it trying to finish it at home. However I began again at once, the same subject on another canvas, but as the weather was quite different, in grey tones and without figures."

The building on the left is mentioned by Vincent in a letter to Theo dated May 20, 1888, as the residence of the Countess De La Boissière and her daughter, both about whom he speaks warmly and to whom he would like to give some paintings. In the same letter he mentions that there is a restaurant owned by "Père Perruchot" on the ground floor. In 1910, the Seine flooded this part of Asnières and in the aftermath, the street level was raised so that the original ground floor is now below street level.
