The London and North Western Railway line from Coalport, after crossing the site of modern Hollinswood Estate, approached Oakengates along the line of the Queensway. It then dropped into Oakengates, passing under the bridge under Canongate. The bridge stood for years, a proud memento on the edge of waste ground (An old photo of the bridge can be viewed at www.telford.org.uk/canal/pics/bmg0069.jpg

They have now built houses nearby, and half-buried the bridge. The arch has been long filled, and the other side blocked off.

After serving the London and North Western Railway, it later served the Great Western Railway mine line from Coalport to Hadley. this is where the track would pass under into Oakengates Goods yard, now called Commercial Way.
