This station formerly served the Township of North Dorchester. The Township of North Dorchester and the Township of West Nissouri almalgamated and the area took the new name of the Township of Thames Centre, named after the Thames River which flowed through both of the former townships.
Two stations serve the current township with the other station being in Thorndale and appropriately named as the Thorndale Station.
Another station located in Belmont, Ontario, located at the county border of Elgin County and Middlesex County and the township boundaries of Central Elgin and Thames Centre also serves the southwest corner of Thames Centre.
This is a very well equipped station and at one time temporarily housed an ambulance operated by Middlesex-London EMS until that entity set up a permanent ambulance/EMS station in Nilestown, Ontario, to serve the Dorchester area as well as the southeast area of London, Ontario.
The current fire station works closely with all emergency services in the area and is a well trained volunteer department.
The station as you can see is modern and well maintained with a large parking area for the volunteer firefighters, a spare equipment bay (used to decorate the local Santa Claus parade float leading up to Christmas Eve parade in which the firefighters play a large role. Other facilities include offices, training room, equipment storage, etc. In addition trucks have access on two sides of the building allowing drive thru access.
This station operates as part of a tiered response system for medical emergencies.
