The Marcus Landslide trail begins at the Tom Thumb trail head in the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve. There are interpretive signs posted along the trail explaining the geology of the area and the geological actions that created and expedited the landslide. The landslide is named after Dr. Melvin Marcus, a professor of geology. Out and back the trail is 3.7 miles including a loop to the top of the slide.
The Tom Thumb trail head includes parking, toilets and a rest area but not water. Hikers must bring sufficient water and be aware of the dangers of hiking in a desert.
