United States CongressmanProper Description of Statue: "Seated figure of E. W. Marland is installed on a square base. The figure wears a suit with vest and tie. His proper right arm rest on the arm of the chair and his proper left hand grips the other chair arm." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
Remarks: "Originally installed on the Marland Estate, the sculpture was moved in 1951 to its present site. It had been commissioned by Ernest Whitworth (E. W.) Marland along with sculpted portraits of his wife and son. Marland was a businessman and one-time Governor of Oklahoma. The sculpture was moved after being found on the estate, which had since become the property of two religious orders. When it was dedicated in 1951, it was deeded to the City by the Marland family. The site was a civic center in 1951 and it is now City Hall." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
