The OLD FARMERS BANK, 4 Strand, is a square flat-roofed brick building with brownstone trim and quoins, built (1845) by the Farmers Bank, which opened that year with Kensey Johns, Jr., as president. The garden in the rear of the house is the site of stables for the horses that first drew the cars of the New Castle & Frenchtown Railroad. - Delaware - A Guide to the First State, New Castle section, 1938, pg. 248-249
The house at 4 The Strand was built as offices for the Farmer's Bank in 1845 but was converted to a private residence in 1851 and remains a private residence today. It is as described in the Guide. It is very well maintained and is a contributing building in the New Castle Historic District.
