This is the highest spot (6,643ft) in Smoky Mountain National Park, and the third highest spot East of the Mississippi. On a clear day there is a spectacular view. On a misty day it has a ghostly look that is still really beautiful.

Clingman's Dome is reached from Newfound Gap on a spur road 7 miles long. From the parking lot a steep trail leads to a tower with a spectacular 360 degree view. Here are a few questions to find answers to once you get there. First: why are there so many dead trees here? Second: What two languages are the main informational markers written in?
Third: What three versions of the creation story are highlighted on one of the markers?
Four: What activity here has caused serious injury and should be avoided? (Look for nearby benchmark)
Visit Instructions:A log will require a recent photograph at the coordinates. Some of these locations will be placed for the scenery, so a gpsr will just ruin the picture.
If you don't have a digital camera post a descriptive log.
