This mosaic is located in the street in front of the city hall of Freiburg, this is a pedestrian zone. The mosaic contains the coat of arms of five of the sister cities of Freiburg.
The cities are Besançon in France, sister city since 1959, Innsbruck, Austria (1963), Padua, Italy (1967), Guilford, UK (1979), and Granada, Spain (1991).
There is a second, very similar mosaic with the coats of arms of the other four sister cities (Madison, USA - Matsuyama (Japan) - Lwiw (Ukraine - Isfahan (Iran)) in front of the Old City Hall about 100 meters north.
