The house at 4 The Strand was built in 1845 as offices for the Farmer's Bank of the State of Delaware but was converted to a private residence in 1851. The brick, two-story, three-bay house is in an Italianate style, laid out on a square, center-hall plan. The exterior features common-bond brick walls, a brown sandstone watertable and rusticated iron quoins.

The house is well maintained and is in very good condition
