Památník letecké nehody u Babic nad Svitavou
25. zárí 1951 ve vecerních hodinách havaroval nedaleko železnicní zastávky Babice nad Svitavou letoun leteckého dopravního pluku typu C-47A-20-DK, výrobní císlo 12948, zaregistrovaný jako D-17. Letoun, který po startu z brnenských Cernovic odlétal smerem na Prahu, zaznamenal krátce po startu poruchu a vracel se zpet do Brna. Na palube byli kapitán František Rezek, kapitán Stanislav Roubícek 1. pilot, kapitán Miroslav Veselý 2. pilot, porucík Jirí Honek navigátor a podporucík Štepán Chytil palubní mechanik. Nehodu nikdo neprežil.
Podle svedectví melo letadlo letet v malé výšce a rychlosti nad železnicní zastávkou Babice nad Svitavou se zapnutým svetlometem. Jeden z motoru byl v plamenech. Pilot mel pravdepodobne v úmyslu nouzove pristát, avšak v ceste se vynoril první kopec s železnicním tunelem. Stroj prudce vzlétl, ale po preletení i druhého vrchu se zrítilo mezi železnicní trat a reku Svitavu. Pri nárazu se odlomilo jedno z krídel a preletelo železnicní násep.
Pri šetrení havárie se zjistilo, že jeden z motoru postrádal vrtuli, která byla pozdeji nalezena v rícce Punkve. Do vyšetrování havárie se také díky podezrení ze sabotáže zapojilo Obranné zpravodajství. Pred tímto letem byl totiž v letounu prepravován z Prahy do Brna divizní generál Josef Hanuš, který patril mezi hlavní odpurce ceskoslovenských letcu z Anglie a také se podílel na jejich perzekuci. Výsledky vyšetrování nedospeli k žádným záverum.
Na míste havárie byl posléze vztycen pomnícek s bronzovou deskou, která obsahovala datum havárie a jména clenu posádky. 6. ríjna 2001 byla na puvodní místo bronzové desticky umístena nová deska z žuly, která nahradila prázdné místo po predešlé, která byla odcizena. Jako hosté pri znovuodhalení byli prítomni tito:

• Alexandra Kucerová – vdova po generálu Otmaru Kucerovi, veliteli 313 stíhací perute RAF.

Memorial accident at Babic Svitavou
September 25, 1951 in the evening crashed near the railway station Babice nad Svitavou aircraft aviation transport regiment C-47A-20-DK, serial number 12948, registered as D-17th The aircraft, which after the start of the Brno Cernovic flew to Prague, recorded shortly after launch failure and returned back to Brno. On board were Captain Francis Rezek, Captain Stanislav Roubícek first pilot, Captain Miroslav Vesely second pilot, Lt. George Honek navigator and Ensign Stephen caught a flight engineer. Nobody survived the accident.
According to the testimony of the aircraft to fly at low altitude and speed of the railway station, in Babice nad Svitavou-enabled headlight. One of the engines was on fire. The pilot had probably intended to make an emergency landing, but the way he emerged with the first hill railway tunnel. The machine suddenly took off, but after flying across the top and second crashed between the railway line and the river Svitava. In a crash broke off one of the wings and crossed the railway embankment.
In the investigation of the accident revealed that one of the engines lacked propeller, which was later found in the river Punkva. The investigation of the accident is also due to suspicions of sabotage involved defense intelligence. Before this flight was in fact in the airplane transported from Prague to Brno Major General Josef Hanus, who was among the main opponents of Czechoslovak airmen from England and also participated in the persecution. The results of the investigation have not come to any conclusions.
At the crash site was later erected a memorial with a bronze plate that contained the date of the accident and the names of crew members. October 6, 2001 was the original place bronze bars placed new board of granite, which replaced the blank space after the previous one, which was stolen.
