I guess the school use to be Northwestern State Teachers College, and some interesting stuff can be read here: Yearbook 1926

A second plaque is present and lists a whole herd of people and and University groups involved in getting the statue made and erected.

It was raining very hard when I was there. So, no people were walking about, and no one to talk to. I usually gather my best information from locals walking around, and I just ask them questions about their town or county, but not this day.
