Simone Lapointe, a 17-year-old JL Crowe Secondary School student, was killed in a head-on collision east of Fruitvale on December 2nd, 2009. Fruitvale is about 10 kilometres northeast of Trail on Highway 3B. At the time of her death she was spearheading a fundraising drive for her best friend, a girl in hospital in Vancouver suffering from secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, an often fatal illness which is characterized by overproduction of white blood cells.
Simone was born on Sept 7th, 1992 and lived but 17 years before she was involved in the fatal accident.
