The Rev. James Smith memorial is an engraved granite stone placed in front of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Sacred to the memory of Rev. James Smith
Aug. 7, 1792
Jan. 24, 1853
He was the husband of Nancy Mullins Smith and a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church South for 30 years during which he founded the Mount Pleasant Church. The church building was not only a place of worship, but was used as a school for the people of the Newburg community. Established 1824.
Erected 2002
Location: In front of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
