The "then" photo shows the Old Vic in September 1950 after the main repairs, following the Second World War bomb damage, were almost complete.

The main differences over the last 65 years are mainly to the front of the building. The roofline has changed with the introduction of the walls around the coat-of-arms at roof level and a canopy over the entrance has been introsuced at street level.

The tall windows have had the arches removed from above them and the theatre's name "The Old Vic" has moved from below these windows to above them. The obelisks that were above the entrance have also disappeared.

There seems to be little change to the side of the building.
Year photo was taken: 1950
