Originally there was a Romanesque church on this site, which was probably founded by the Count of Loon. In 1078 the patronage of this church was donated by Countess Ermengardis to the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Bartholomew in Liege. Mid-15th century began with the construction of the church in Maasland Gothic, first the choir, which probably dates from 1452. The ship is from the early 16th century. The Romanesque tower was preserved. In 1506 was commissioned by Arnold van Mewen and his wife Aleydis bouche built a Chapel of St. Anna, which is today southern transept. In 1606 blew the steeple and damaged to the Our Lady Chapel, which was built in 1469. Chapel and tower were restored. In 1831 the tower was crumbling again, and she was restored. From 1901-1902 the church was enlarged, with the tower was demolished and a new one built, the nave was extended westwards with one bay, aisles were built, as well as the northern transept and the sacristy.
