The maps are specially created for the Southbank Centre as there are many entrances, several buildings and lots of levels to get lost on/in!
The maps are on a tall pillar with the top section giving the name of the buildings (Southbank Centre) with three horizontal bans coloured orange, mauve and yellow beneath. The colours represent the three main buildings: Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall respectively.
In the central area there is the main map that includes the "you are here" and above it a schematic showing the buildings, river, river crossings and the IMAX cinema. The main map shows the three main buildings, colour coded as mentioned above, stairways, toilets and local roads. The various levels are also colour coded: dark grey is street level; medium grey is first floor level and light grey is underground parking.
Below the main map is a legend that gives the names of the rooms within each building as well as a list as to what the various icons, used on the map, mean.
