Black Granite Memorial dedicated to all all Police Services K9 Units worldwide.

The memorial is located in Beautiful Joe Park in Meaford, a park so named after the series of books by local author Margaret Marshall Saunders. The books were concerened with Beautiful Joe, a cruelly abused dog rescued from its masters, who went on to become a loving and faithful family companion, much the same as K9 teams are today.

The memorial was dedicated in September, 2000 by the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society, whose mandate is promote positive animal-human interaction. Many Ontario Provincial Police and municipal police K9 units attended the dedication.

The steps leading up to the black granite monument are symbolic of strength and resolve.

The memorial text reads:

In recognition of the
dedication and courage
demonstrated internationally by
Police Canine Units

The monument can be reached from either Owen or Edmund Streets in Meaford.
