The Campbellford Cenotaph was originally dedicated in 1926 by the Campbellford and Beymersyde Chapters of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) a Canadian women's charitable organization. It was originally intended as a First World War Memorial, but has since been expanded to include the Second World War and Korea.
It consists of a white granite centerpiece on a cement base, with flag poles on either side. The front centrepiece consists of carved reversed swords, symbolizing the end of hostilities. The names of the WWII dead are engraved, as well as the major battles of the First World War, including Ypres, Paaschendaele, Festubert, Somme, Arras.
Korea has been added near the top, by the hilts of the swords.
The reverse of the monument contains the names of those who fell during WW I.
There is an additional bronze marker containing the names of those who served during World War One and World War II.
The entire cenotaph is enclosed with a black wrought iron fence, something of a rarity these days.
The cenetoph received a makeover in 2008/2009 and was rededicated on 11 November, 2009.
