This plaque is dedicated to Liddell’s Division, Walker’s Corps., commanded by Brig. Gen. St. John R. Liddell in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 20, 1863 at noon. This is one of four plaques to Liddell’s Division on the battlefield.

To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Reed’s Bridge Road, follow the path south to the marker. Pass the table for Strahl's Brigade (CSA). The path will fork, continue straight (south) along the same path. This path will dead end in to a path running east – west. Alexander’s Bridge and Battleline Roads will be to the west.

Text on the plaque reads:
Liddell’s Division, Walker’s Corps.
Brig. Gen. St. John R. Liddell.
Sept. 20, 1863, Noon

Liddell’s Brigade, Col. Daniel C. Govan.
Walthall’s Brigade, Brig. Gen. Edward C. Walthall.

At noon this division was sent forward with Walker’s division to replace Breckinridge’s division which had been repulsed in its attack on the Union left. Walthall’s brigade attacked the line northeast of the Kelly field and on the left of Colquitt’s brigade both being repulsed. Liddell’s brigade was first sent to the support of Adam’s and Stovall’s brigades of Breckinridge’s division when they were being driven back from the rear of the Union line in the Kelly field and did not reach that ground till after Breckinridge’s repulse and about 5 P.M. the division advanced to the Lafayette road and crossed it at McDonald’s house. Here its line was at first enfiladed and forced back but soon recrossed the Lafayette road and bivouacked in the fields about the McDonald House.

Note
Trailhead Graphics, Inc. has produced a map of the Chickamauga Battlefield showing the locations of all of the monuments and the markers on the battlefield. Each location on the map has a number associated with it that cross-references to an index on the back of the map that has the name of the marker (called the Chick-Chatt NMP monument numbering system). This number corresponds to the structure Number listed on the NPS List of Classified Structures that is normally prefixed with the letters MT for the Chickamauga Battlefield.
