This stone and log picnic shelter was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps when they were camped in this area in the 1930’s. It was built in 1936 at a cost of $2,049.72 and continues to be enjoyed by visitors to Gooseberry Falls State Park. The massive stone fireplace warms many gatherings, and the large windows offer a spectacular view of Lake Superior just a stone’s throw away. It is still used for numerous events including graduations, weddings, and family reunions.
