Marienbrunnen was erected in 1954 on the place in front of Herz-Jesu-Kirche in the west of Freiburg.
The fountain has a round stone basin with an octagonal column and eight pipes in the center.
On top of the column the is a statue of St Mary, created by the Jewish artist Richard Engelmann (1868-1966).
