"High on the south side of the tower is an unusual semi-circular sundial. This is thought to be the oldest extant sundial of its kind in England. There is a metal gnomon in the shape of a handle, and raised moulding below and to the side. The sundial must have been situated so that it could be clearly seen from the castle. "
