1909 there was a competition between several architects to build a town hall in Buer. All of the 62 plans were scrapped. At last they chose Regierungsbaumeister Josef Peter Heil as the architect for the building.
Construction works started in June 1910, and the opening ceremony took place on 9/21/1912.
The Scholven/Buer synthetic oil plant was a bombing target of the Oil Campaign of World War II but the Buer town hall survived in nearly original form.
"Buer is the largest suburb of Gelsenkirchen. The Hochstrasse in the heart of Buer is the largest shopping street in Gelsenkirchen.
In 1928, the adjoining cities of Buer, Gelsenkirchen, and Horst merged to form Gelsenkirchen-Buer, which was renamed Gelsenkirchen in 1930."
