On the eastern side of cathedral hill there is a plaque with two old photos with same view.

This view is from the catherdral hill in Breisach, looking east over the lower city to the Black Forest. Next to a coin-operated binocular there is a plaque with two pictures taken from the same spot.

The older one is from 1910, we see apartment houses, some factories and church in the backgroud.

The second one was taken in 1945, just after the war, when 85% of this strategically important border town were destroyed.

The reconstruction of the city was mainly finished in the mid-1950, the over all character of the area is like it was one hundred years ago, but there are little similarities in the details. Even the buildings that look old are usually rebuilt ones.
