US 178 in South Carolina is known as the Charles H. Moorefield Highway through it's entire length from the NC border in Pickens County to near Ridgeville, SC. Along the entire length, there are a series of memorial markers dedicated to Charles H. Moorefield.
Charles H. Moorefield was an engineer who helped design many of South Carolina's major highways during the expansion of the US highway system.
