The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.
Many of the bridges on the canal have cut marks on them, but not all of them, including this one are on the OS website.
The cut mark is on the outside of the side of the bridge that faces the canal. Although the towpath is carried over the top of the bridge, there is a small path alongside the bridge allowing a safe view of the cut mark. The cut mark is rather faded.
